A Twitter Slipup and the Paycheck Fairness Act
A recent Twitter mistake could cost Senator Bennet
in the upcoming election. With only a
week and a half before Coloradoans head to the polls, a minor slip up is all
that it takes to lose an election.
One of Bennet’s interns reportedly posted a tweet
saying Bennet served as Denver’s Mayor for two years. A false assertion that
was corrected a short time later. Bennet was quick to respond once the error
was noticed saying, “I served as Mayor John Hickenlooper’s Chief of Staff from
2003-2005”. It’s nice to see a politician who is concerned with the details and
he went on to say “Throughout the day, our dedicated interns work hard to get
information to the constituents as quickly and effectively as possible; regrettably,
mistakes can be made.”
Speaking of mistakes, recently GPS Crossroads posted
a blog article claiming that the Bennet campaign is paying female staffers 12
cents less per hour than their male counterparts. The post also alleges that
other unnamed democrats are paying 91 cents per dollar when compared to male
staff members.
Interestingly, on April 8th Bennet urged
the Senate to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act. A bill that would help to close
the pay gap between men and women. “The Paycheck Fairness Act will help better
align these ideals to reality. Equal pay for equal work is not only the right
thing to do, it’s also good for our economy. At a time when more Colorado
families than ever depend on two incomes, the idea that women are making less
for the same work is unacceptable. The Senate should pass this bill to help
address that injustice.” Bennet said as a co-sponsor of the Paycheck Fairness
Act. With that in mind, this reporter can’t help but wonder if the special interests
are at it again.
