In
the wake of recent scandal with GPS Crossroads, Congressman Mike Coffman has
issued an apology in his letter to the Sixth District and the people of Colorado.
He began “Before anything else is said, I would like to apologize to the people
of Colorado and the people I represent in the Sixth District for the events
that occurred on Friday the Eleventh of April between campaign staff, CrossRoads
GPS, and myself.
Coffman
said “ I have put my life on the line to defend the values this country was
founded on: integrity and personal courage. He went on to say “because these
values mean so much to me” he has asked
the FEC to investigate his campaign finance reports and Crossroads GPS to show
how much ‘integrity’ and personal ‘courage’ mean to him. He feels this is to
ensure the only voice that matters in Congress is the people Coffman said that
he met with GPS Crossroads to discuss issues important to their members because
he felt it was crucial for “all the people in Colorado to be heard from.” He
also said he understands this meeting “should not have happened” Coffman also
said since this meeting was arranged at the behest of his campaign manager; he
has been fired.
“A
clean and fair election is what the people of Colorado deserve, and that he is
going to work to “live up the values I have fought for.” Coffman ended his
letter with “Furthermore, I pledge to do my best to curb outside money from
swaying this election and I would like to ask my opponents’ campaign to join me
in this pledge. Lastly, he said “This election is about the people of Colorado and
it needs to return to being about the people of Colorado, not D.C. games.
Since the scandal
broke, it has been a source of trouble for the Coffman Campaign and the effects
of this apology remains to be seen, Coffman seems to be trying to regain
ground.
